Arrested on a charge of possession and export of hard drugs to Australia

Today, as part of an investigation into possession and export of hard drugs to Australia, the Dutch police searched the homes of two suspects and subsequently arrested the men, a 33-year-old from Utrecht and a 47-year-old from Huizen.

Request for legal assistance

Through a request for legal assistance, the Australian authorities asked the National Crime Squad and the Public Prosecution Service in the Netherlands for their support in Operation Veyda, an investigation into the activities of a criminal organisation involved in the supply of hard drugs. In response to the request, an investigation was started in the Netherlands, which ultimately resulted in the arrest of the two Dutch suspects.

Australia

Simultaneously with the operation in the Netherlands, the Australian police and the police in Dubai arrested suspects and searched homes within the framework of Operation Veyda, which is an ongoing large-scale investigation into an Australian syndicate to which the narcotics were going to be supplied.

Seizure

Between 22 May and 18 July, the Dutch police intercepted and seized a total of 1.000 kilograms of MDMA, 116 kilograms of cocaine, and 15 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine before the narcotics could reach Australia.

The Dutch suspects were arrested on a charge of supplying hard drugs.

The man from Utrecht is suspected of the export of 500 kilograms of MDMA. The man from Huizen is suspected of the export of 498 kilograms of MDMA, 116 kilograms of cocaine, and 15 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine.

House searches

The search of the homes of the suspects led to the seizure of various goods, namely some 500 euro banknotes which were hidden in Utrecht and an amount of hashish in Huizen.
