Criminal case MH17
On 17 November 2022, three men were found guilty of downing flight MH17 on 17 July 2014, resulting in the death of 298 persons on board. The court sentenced them to the highest penalty, life imprisonment. On 8 February 2023, the JIT announced its findings of the investigation into other persons involved. Although no further prosecutions were initiated, the case file will not be permanently closed.
War crimes, genocide, crimes against humanity, torture and enforced disappearances: international crimes and offenses of the most serious sort. The Dutch government believes that such crimes must be investigated and the guilty parties brought to justice.
